About
An overview of my experiences and values

My name is John Faulkner, and I’ve been in the Epic EHR space now for over a decade. You’re on this page because you’re struggling to manage your EHR system. You have big problems that need to be solved, whether you’re a tech firm servicing health centers or hospitals or a hospital seeking to manage caseloads and insurance processing as efficiently as possible, so you can focus on what matters—

Helping your patients.

I’m the right person for the job. My passion for technology and being of service to my fellow human beings led me out of a career as a teacher and into becoming an Epic EHR consultant.

Most people see hospitals as buildings with doctors in them, that they can go to for help when they’re ill. But, in reality, hospitals are far more complex than concrete walls and heart rate monitors.

They’re a lot more like living, breathing organisms, with countless moving parts that require strict observation and management to operate smoothly…

Much like a human being in bad health, a hospital’s entire operation could be slowed down, or halted by failing EHR systems. And much like your doctors do with their patients, I diagnose and solve EHR issues at their roots. Eliminating future problems while I’m at it.

A bit of Backstory.

My journey into the Epic world started with a phone call that I received one hour before my wedding. A recruiter was interested in finding teachers to facilitate some training in a software called Epic.

At the time… I was a little preoccupied, so I didn’t immediately jump on the offer.

But a few months later, I became an ASAP Credentialed Trainer for Sparrow Health System’s (Lansing MI) Epic Implementation and supported their go-live in December of that year.

In the early portions of the following year, I started a new role as an ASAP Credentialed Trainer with the University of Michigan Health System (Ann Arbor, MI) and quickly became credentialed in ClinDoc, Stork, and Ambulatory. In this role, I provided upgrade and on-site support while teaching up to fifty staff members at a time.

By September of 2016, I was working on Beaumont’s Epic Security team, merging their current build into two other Epic instances. This project was massive, to say the least, and took a year of flawless coordination on various fronts. Thankfully, my military training had given me the necessary leadership skills to maintain a cohesive unit and help us pull through the project together.

After a year of coordinating that project, I took on a role on their Epic ClinDoc/Stork team, supporting their modules and fetal monitoring software. Guiding them post-merger with their Epic instances. I remained there for several years before transitioning into their Ambulatory/Population Health team in June 2021.

In this instance, my role was centered on implementing a Case Management module. This was another large project with requirements for coordination with Care Management and their Physician Staff and integration with third-party software.

In October of 2021, I realized that I was missing out on time spent with my family and children. I had a massively fulfilling and successful career, but my priorities began shifting as I realized how many precious moments I had been missing with my wife and children.

But, I couldn’t simply leave my career behind.

There’s an immense need for qualified Epic analysts, and I wanted to do my part to maintain a healthy healthcare system in our country. Hence, the birth of John Faulkner LLC.
